Mont Rouge Olive Estate is situated 12 km east of Vanwyksdorp in the Western Cape near the Groot River basin which flows through the farm en route to Gouritzmond. This small Karoo town is located roughly 44km from Ladysmith. At an elevation of approximately 250 meters above sea level, the farm’s lime-rich soils and  Mediterranean climate make it an ideal location for olive cultivation. The farm was previously operated as a mechanised lucerne farm, but was slowly converted into an olive farm from the start of 2006. In 2008, the decision was made to farm olives commercially. Mont Rouge Olive Estate’s olive groves consist of Mission, Frantoio, Kalamata, Leccino, Coratina and Nocellara cultivars.

The estate maintains its award-winning extra virgin quality by means of cold extraction. All of the olives are handpicked at optimal ripeness. The estate’s table olives undergo a process of slow fermentation over 12-14 months and are preserved by salt and limestone-filtered mountain water.
